This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the top law firms in the U.S.! Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is looking for a Senior Data Visualization Specialist to join our team. This position allows the flexibility to be fully remote while working near either our Seattle or Portland offices.

This position is responsible for providing high level support for client program teams, including analyzing data and creating reports and dashboards to support self-service analytics for the firms timekeepers and largest clients. It requires someone who is highly detail orientated, exercises sound judgment, and possesses strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills while prioritizing and managing multiple assignments.

On a typical day you will:

Service Delivery: The Client Experience Team works to augment the traditional legal services provided to clients through proactive communication, actionable reporting, and strategic client satisfaction initiatives. The Client Experience Senior Data Visualization Specialist is expected to:

  • Work with lawyers and staff to meet service expectations and address specific problems or opportunities to enable the firm to provide excellent, differentiated service
  • Work with legal teams and staff departments to help drive service innovation to deliver service more efficiently, effectively, and profitably, including analyzing and visualizing data (using tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, and Microsoft Excel) to give firm and client leadership operational insight into financial and matter data
  • Be willing and able to learn new reporting tools and features to identify opportunities to add value to the client team
  • Drive projects forward with Information Technology, Finance, and other firm departments to create solutions that address client needs and maximize program capacity

Data Analysis and Visualization: The Client Experience Team is focused on creating and utilizing objective performance metrics to help stakeholders, internal and external, understand what should be given priority. The Client Experience Senior Data Visualization Specialist is the primary team member responsible for analyzing metrics and designing reports that help drive business decisions and the achievement of goals. The Client Experience Senior Data Visualization Specialist is expected to:

  • Interact directly with attorney and client stakeholders to understand their needs and take a user-centered approach to developing data visualizations
  • Query data using SQL, explore data sources, and merge information from diverse data sources to create rich datasets that enable better decision-making
  • Create prototypes based on stakeholder requirements to confirm the report design meets the business need
  • Design, create, analyze, and maintain low-to-high complexity data visualizations, reports, and dashboards (using tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, and Microsoft Excel) that are intuitive and help decision makers answer questions
  • Present results and reports to firm and client leadership
  • Incorporate performance and data quality considerations into report planning and delivery
  • Manage requirements gathering sessions and the process, including creating documentation and tracking progress in shared collaboration tools (e.g., Asana)
  • Establish, communicate, and manage best practices for design and data visualization (e.g., chart selection and visual encodings) and help ensure that standards are being met
  • Create and deliver end-user training and documentation on business intelligence deliverables

Financial and Data Literacy: The Client Experience Team is tasked with improving the efficiency and financial success of high-volume matters. This necessitates an intimate understanding of law firm economics, available levers for increasing profitability, and tools used to manage finances. The Client Experience Senior Data Visualization Specialist is expected to:

  • Understand basic law firm economics and pricing, including profitability metrics, timekeeper rates, and matter types (e.g., alternative fee arrangements)
  • Understand the financial performance challenges of each workstream our team supports to create effective visualizations
  • Support the attorney leads and client teams in identifying inefficiencies and opportunities to optimize cost management and financial performance

Client Communication: Understanding how and when to communicate with our stakeholders, internal and external, can help build trust and strengthen the relationship. The Client Experience Senior Data Specialist will assist in developing formal and informal lines of communication to ensure the firm has a deep connection with our clients within their programs. The Client Experience Senior Data Visualization Specialist is expected to:

  • Be knowledgeable and responsive as the primary point of contact for data visualizations for the Client Experience Teams stakeholders, fielding questions and escalating issues as necessary
  • Be comfortable with initial ambiguity in requirements gathering and offer solutions to lead stakeholders down the right path
  • Help prepare for and attend business review meetings with the firms client teams and their clients

Join us if you have:
    • 2+ years experience in legal services or other professional services industry
    • Bachelors degree required, emphasis in Business Administration, Data Analytics or other technical discipline; MBA, Masters degree, or other relevant advanced degree, preferred
    • 7+ years experience with business intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, and Microsoft Excel
    • Understanding of Microsoft DAX or Tableau VizQL query languages preferred
    • Experience with relational databases utilizing SQL to pull and summarize large datasets, report creation, and ad hoc analyses
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail and minimal supervision
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented, service focused environment and to handle stressful situations in a calm, composed manner
    • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on how we can provide a solution and not the reasons we cannot
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English and the ability to effectively communicate the results of analyses, both verbal and written, with all levels of a professional services organization
    • Demonstrated ability and interest to learn new technologies quickly and independently
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
    • Experience with HighQ, Azure DevOps, and Microsoft SharePoint preferred

This job description intends to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. It is not intended to include all duties and responsibilities.

The annualized salary range for this position in Washington is $101K - $112K. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidates education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, telemedicine and virtual short term solution based counseling services, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, subsidized backup care and caregiving resources, 401(k), vacation, sick time, 11 paid holidays each year and an employee assistance program. For full-time employees, the initial vacation benefit is 15 days per year and 11 days of sick leave per year, accrued bi-weekly. Additional voluntary programs include: voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life, voluntary disability, voluntary long term care, and pet insurance.
